Celebrated photographer and founder of image archive Tiny Vices, Tim Barber, has curated a group exhibition entitled Apparatus for M+B Gallery. Inspired by the isolated and sometimes disconnected perspective humans assume in regards to the mechanics of the body, Barber has cleverly selected art that pushes the idea beyond visual interpretation.
“An apparatus is a set of materials or equipment designed for a particular use. The word can also be used to describe the body, and the inner-workings of the body-anatomical or cytological parts functioning together. We are each an apparatus, built out of apparatuses, down to the cellular level. As a group, this collection of artworks forms a new kind of apparatus, one who’s designated use changes with each new set of eyes.”
The Apparatus line up boasts an impressive roster of participants including Ryan McGinley, Terrence Koh, Jason Nocito and Aurel Schmidt.
