This past Friday, as the second installment of Fashion’s Night Out, the creative director of Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière hosted the debut of Cindy Sherman: Untitled (Balenciaga) at the brand’s flagship store in the Meatpacking district. Cindy Sherman featured six quintessential self portrait characters, titled “the fashion victim” and “the aging doyenne,” styled and fashioned in full Balenciaga attire. As some images were published in Vogue Paris in 2007, her fashionista impersonations provided a twist on bridging fashion and art. This haute campaign and collaboration is a satirical expectation for an artist to be played as the model muse. Naturally on the runway, a few designs in this seasons collection printed text of Sherman’s published press reviews as textile accents.
