May marks the debut of Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci foray into the world of costume design for the Opéra Garnier. Men in nude-colored couture skirts are just the beginning of the Tisci visual character interpretation for Maurice Ravel’s Le Boléro, originally written in 1928. Production is overseen by performance artist extraordinaire Marina Abramovic and will offer a dark and sensuous interpretation of the classic ballet.
“Boléro is all about intensity! The music has such an intense feeling. I wanted the dancers to feel naked somehow. The costumes express two sides of me: darkness and romanticism.” says Tisci in a recent interview with the Telegraph.
